Research - film target audiences for thriller films.

Audience Research

The 'UK cinemagoing by genre' report says that in 2010, 38 suspense/thriller movies were released and collectively that genre gross was £42 million. This has earned a lot of money however genres like Action and Adventure earned the most amount of money out of all the genres they earned £265 million. The reason is because suspense films have a specific audience. Their target audience is mainly young adults. The reason is because young people (-23) go to the cinema for entertainment and thrills, for experiences. Whereas many may say that the older generation (25+) watch movies to think, a confusing narrative perhaps. In addition action and adventure films are very popular with all ages and this is why this genre generated the most gross in the year of 2010.

The most popular family genre in 2010 was animation. This is because movies like Shrek, Toy Story are popular with both adults and children therefore covers a whole range of ages.
