Intertextuality

Intertexuality is when there is some visual references within films. so certain films may 'borrow' key scenes from a movie and include it within thir own films.
The famous shower scene has been borrowed by other movies.
Movies such as what lies Beneath, Fatal attraction, the stepfather and a student thriller 'Succubus'.

Here is the original violent shower scene:

In 'What Lies Beneath' we see a man carrying a lady who seems to be dead to the shower.
Aspects of the above shower scene from 'Psycho' have been borrowed which is the fact that the woman dies in the shower just like the  lady in 'Psycho'.

secondly, in 'Fatal attraction', what happens is that a women stabs another women in the bathroom. The ideas that have been borrowed from Psycho is that both victims are women, the attack is done in the bathroom and we can see blood in the water.

Thirdly, in 'The Stepfather', we see a very angry man attacking his wife and she runs to the bathroom. The shower curtain breaks with the man collapsing into the bath tub. which is very smilar to the 'Psycho' scene.
Lastly in 'Succubus' (Student Thriller) the attacker enters the bathroom while the victim is taking a shower. Aspects that have been borrowed is when the attacker enters the room without the victim realising.
