Film technique - 180 Degree Rule

The 180 degree rule is a guideline that states that two characters in a scene should maintain the same left/right relationship to one another. This means that if we want to portray a shot reverse shot, then as we shoot behind character A's right shoulder we should shoot behind character B's right shoulder too in order to prevent distracting the audience from the scene because if we shoot from different angles then the audience will think that the characters have switched places.
